Do you live your life at cause or at effect?

Being at cause means that you allow yourself to take the reins and direct your life anyway you choose. The world is your oyster and you take responsibility for your actions and your achievements.

When you are at effect you become really good at playing the blame game and you often come up with a bucket load of excuses to keep them you from fulfilling your dreams.

This is a pretty powerless position to be in as people on effect, usually become a victim of circumstance and make someone else responsible for their own happiness.

They say things like, “If only my husband, wife, daughter, friend, colleague, understood me better, or did what I wanted then life would be great.”

This doesn’t sound like much fun right? It’s a very limiting way to live your life.

Being at cause means you have choices in your life – suddenly the metaphorical glass is not just half full but it is overflowing with possibilities.

Do I always live me life at cause? Honestly, no. I do however, strive to be at cause for the most part and thanks to the beautiful science of achievement that is NLP, I am able to quickly identify those times when I’ve veered off track and I’m living at effect.

Meta Model is the first model developed by Richard Bandler and John Grinder after modelling Virginia Satir, it’s used to unravel distortions, deletions and generalisations that obscure the deep structure and the original meaning of the experience. It seeks specificity by chunking down. The model is question based (challenge), and serves to restore the original meaning of the message. The meta model is used to gather specific, sensory based information, clarify meaning, identify limits, create choices and reconnect language with experience.

Feedback or Failure? The Power of Positive Thinking
An editor once told F. Scott Fitzgerald, “You’d have a decent book if you’d get rid of that Gatsby Character.”

I believe history would tend to disagree.

The Great Gatsby is now considered to be one of the greatest literary masterpieces of the 20th century. The world is eagerly awaiting the premiere of Baz Luhrmann’s film adaptation of this great novel starring Leonardo DiCaprio as Jay Gatsby.

The iconic author Gertrude Stein was no stranger to ‘rejection’ either. Well known for coining the phrase “a rose is a rose is a rose”, Stein received the following letter from an editor, dated April 19, 1912, who mocked her challenging writing style.

Stephen King is another great writer who used his early ‘failures’ to help motivate him to reach his goals. In his book, On Writing, King says that whenever he received a rejection letter, he would stick it on a nail in his wall.

“By the time I was fourteen … the nail in my wall would no longer support the weight of the rejection slips impaled upon it. I replaced the nail with a spike and kept on writing.”

His first novel Carrie was eventually accepted by a publisher and ‘the King of Horror’ has since sold over 350 million copies of his novels and short stories.

People who frame unwanted results as failure tend to get discouraged and decide to give up; they may be so demoralised from their experiences that they don’t learn anything from them.

When others view a similar situation as useful feedback, they can learn from their experience and modify what their doing until they achieve their desired results.
A great question to ask when receiving feedback is, “What do I need to learn from this?”

Celebrating Dr. Seuss

Earlier this month (March 2), the world honoured the best-selling children’s author of all time, Dr. Seuss on what has become known as Dr. Seuss Day.

I grew up reading Dr. Seuss books and even today his words still resonate with me. Oh, the places you’ll go is my favourite Dr. Seuss book –

“You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself in any direction you choose. You’re on your own. And you know what you know. You are the guy who’ll decide where to go.”

In one of his most famous books, The Cat in the Hat, Dr. Seuss only used 236 different words. It really is a work of genius because it is simple enough for younger children to read and it also captures the imagination and gives kids (both young and old) the incentive to read.

We are very excited to announce that Dr Serge Kahili King, the author of the world’s largest selection of books and audio programs on Huna and the spirit of Aloha, will be the trainer at our upcoming Huna event in Byron Bay (April 23 -28).
